Alternative Fuel Handling

As utilities strive to reduce operating costs, the use of alternative fuel sources is increasingly becoming a more viable option. Fuels such as petroleum coke, bituminous waste (gob), biomass, and bio-fuels are gaining in popularity. Wood chips (sometimes called "hog fuel"), used tires, sugar cane waste, municipal waste, or virtually any other combustible material are being considered alternative fuel sources.

The use of alternative fuels is comparatively new and growing.  Its use in existing power plants has increased, as disposal of many of these materials has experienced spiraling costs due to increased difficulty in meeting expanded environmental constraints. In addition to reduced operating costs and disposal of undesirable materials, a major benefit of using alternative fuels is the provision of financial incentives from federal and/or state agencies for installing and operating alternative fuel systems that are efficient and environmentally compatible.

Our Engineering & Construction group has an experienced staff of engineering and project management professionals who can assist you in charting a course to design, engineer and build your new or retrofitted alternative fuel material handling system. Put our systems expertise to work for you.
